Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC)

The thermal effectiveness achieved with Heatric diffusion bonding technology is well suited for the Organic Rankine Cycle, maximising energy extraction from the available heat sink.  A very low pressure drop can also be achieved to ensure the parasitic load of heat exchangers is kept to a minimum.

Significant reductions in foundation, steel and pipe work required for installation are easily achieved by employing Heatric exchangers which are up to 85% lighter and smaller than other technologies. This is especially true if the units are to be skid mounted for offshore or marine applications and their compact nature also makes them ideal for retrofitting or upgrading existing systems.

Other benefits achieved by using Heatric exchangers include:

  • Elimination of pressure fatigue issues due to the high integrity achieved by diffusion bonding
  • Rapid cycling ability when compared to standard technologies
  • Elimination of failures due to tube vibrations found in other exchanger designs
  • Improved safety through low internal volume reducing the fluid inventory of volatile organic working fluids
  • Cost savings created by combining evaporator, condenser and recuperator into one heat exchanger through multi-stream capability (typically up to six fluids) minimising footprint, weight, valving and piping
